We packed the Pickerills onto a plane, drove over from Fountain Hills, and brought Erin down from LA for a return visit to the Capistrano Beach/Dana Point beach house which we had rented for an earlier Spring Break about 5 years ago!
The house had been fully remodeled and we enjoyed its setting even more than before. The younger set did excursions to Disney and the San Diego Zoo, while the more tranquil among us visited Santa Catalina Island, biked and walked the beaches and read books with a soothing surf lulling us into naptimes. I found myself lulled to sleep with the song in my ear "26 miles across the sea, Santa Catalina is waiting for me", "40 kilometers in a leaky old boat, Any old thing that'll stay afloat", and so on….
Watching Joe & Carolyn romp on the beach, comb the tide-pools, build sandcastles and toss the ball around near the surf was a veritable re-play of the exact activities that Tessa and Jordy enjoyed so much when they were here in the very same beach house back in 2006! Being with the Grandkids for extended periods quickly reminds one of their constant energy and zeal for excitement. We were pleased and astounded, however, when Joe and Carolyn both tackled the Sudoku puzzles that I'd made for them (Joe a full 9x9 and Carolyn cutting her puzzle prowess on a tough 6x6!!
We celebrated Erin's and Carolyn's birthdays with a fabulous cake from the Dana Point Marina shop called "It's All About The Cake". And it was, this usual gang of non-sweet eaters cleaned up that delicious Chocolate/Chocolate delicacy and Erin even packed the remains for a 'doggy bag' back to her humble abode!!
